Archaeology workshop
The program offers school classes an insight into the work of archaeologists. First, important questions are clarified in a theoretical part in the Roman Quarter: What is archaeology anyway? What is found? How and where is something excavated? What tools are used? And: Why do we actually do this?
After a short break, it's time to dig for yourself! In groups of two, each child is allowed to retrieve one object (pottery, bone or building material) from the sand. This must then be described and drawn on a find sheet. Once everyone has taken a close look at their finds, they are briefly presented. Together they can then think about where in the city these objects were used by the Romans. At the end, everyone is allowed to take their find sheet home with them as a souvenir.
The program is offered in two levels of difficulty and can therefore be adapted to the age of the pupils.
